And, over the next 10 years, it is projected that the number of STEM graduates will not keep pace in filling STEM jobs. It is projected that 1 million STEM-related jobs will go unfilled by 2020. Hour of Code has made huge strides in bringing computer science to all students and to help address the diversity gap in computer science. Preparing the next generation with the skills to work in the digital economy is also an important aspect of Accenture’s corporate citizenship initiative, Skills to Succeed. Last year, Accenture people showed up in more than 200 cities across more than 55 countries to do more than 14,000 hours of code with students of all ages. This year the tutorial is available in 15 languages to reach more students around the world (give it a try!).Īccenture professionals enthusiastically volunteer for Hour of Code to spark the interest of future computer scientists and coders, helping to build #NewSkillsNow all over the world. Last year, Accenture developed its own coding tutorial, Accenture Intelligent Space Exploration, which teaches students about artificial intelligence though an animated robot learning to explore a new planet. Through this volunteer- and teacher-based program, students from around the world learn the principles of coding through free, one-hour introductory tutorials designed to demystify computer science and show that anybody can learn to code. Our people plan to inspire the next generation of diverse technology talent during Accenture’s Week of Code, December 3‒9. The first week of December is Computer Science Education Week, which also is when the Hour of Code takes place, now in its fifth year.
